Dear Parent/Guardians of all Mapes Elementary Students,
Welcome to another exciting year of learning at Mapes Elementary.
Seeing the smiling faces, hearing the excitement in conversations and catching up on the summer adventures has been the highlight of the week at Mapes. The 2018-2019 school year has begun! We extend a special welcome to new families, teachers and support staff while sending a warm hello and welcome back to those returning for another year of thinking, learning and growing together. I am privileged to be a part of the Mapes school community and look forward to working with you as the Principal.
Mapes is delighted to welcome two new teachers this fall, Mr. Jose Han in the Grade 4/5/6 classroom and Mrs. Anne Geddes as Head Teacher. You will find both to be approachable, kind and professional. We are thrilled to have Mrs. Desmarais (K/1) and Ms. Bennett (Grade 2/3) returning along with the support of Mrs. Solmonson, Mrs. Warkentin and the newest support staff, Mrs. Fergusson.
The cheerful voice of Mrs. Wheeler will continue to be the first greeting when you walk through the doors and Mrs. Douglas will ensure that everything is neat and tidy at the end of the day. Mapes Elementary School is fortunate to have such a dedicated group of individuals working together for the success of every learner.
We invite all families to stop in next Wednesday, September 12th at 5:00 for a welcome back BBQ. Please bring your families and join us for hamburgers and hot dogs, visit with teachers and meet other parents and students at Mapes. The Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) will have information on how you can be involved as a parent volunteer. We are looking forward to an exceptional year.
Ms. Stacey Soffel
